Why do we like this?
I love rap songs that you can keep on loop for hours. 9th Wonder's Jamla artist Rapsody debuts her Gangsta Grillz mixtape with "Jedi Code," a fierce rhyming clinic with two very formidable guests over a solid beat from 9th's Korg Triton.
Phonte sets the bar at an impressive height with a strong rappity rap verse; I very much enjoyed the Jimmy Darmondy reference as well. Rapsody does more than hold her own during her verse. She stunts her boss' Harvard fellowship and expounds Jedi Knight values while showing a mastery of MC fundamentals.
Jay Electyarmulke plays clean-up hitter, taking heads that have been wobbled loose from the previous verses and knocking them clean off their shoulders. He sounds at ease and in great form, extended metaphors and vivid imagery abound. Of course there's a repurposed Frank White rhyme, what is a Jay Elect verse without a nod to his rhyming ancestors?
While rappers are falling over themselves to respond to non-disses and crowd a (lame) conversation, it's fantastic to see an MC lead by example with cast-iron tracks.
