Why do we like this?
This is not a new song, but I was saddened to see that Indie Shuffle had thus far missed out on any Raphael Saadiq posts. The 60s born Oakland, CA, native has some amazingly comprehensive R&B roots as a member of Tony! Toni! Toné! (Feels Good, anyone?), in addition to working with the likes of Stevie Wonder, various A Tribe Called Quest members, Little Dragon, Joss Stone, J Dilla, and Jay-Z. Seriously, not a big deal at all.
"Good Man" is a track off his latest album Stone Rollin', and is a conglomeration of sounds representing his musical career path. A fantastic fusion of jazz, R&B, and soul, the female and male vocals perfectly counterbalance each other alongside a whimsically meandering melody. There is a timelessness in this song, something all at once beautifully classic and current. I dig it, juuuuust slightly.
