Singer/songwriter Ramly has been carrying his music through live performances in various music festivals around Beirut for some time now, always cozy, always harmonious, often by himself and the gentle plucking of a ukulele to guide the crowd into an air of musical escapade.
He’s recently finished working on his first EP, Drown The Morning Sun, opting to go with a band for the studio versions of the tracks. After giving it a listen I’d have to say the outcome is excellent.
I chose to share with you the opening track, “Beacon Hill,” simply because it’s my favorite of the bunch (at least so far). It starts off with what is becoming his trademark ukulele sound before the song transports you into a charming melange of tranquility, sweet melancholy, and a rich envelope of ambient layers to give your mind some wanderlust.
Ramly’s sound was spectacular when he was all by his lonesome, but it's also great with a full band. Teaming up with established producer Fadi Tabbal, who also appears on the album laying his own guitar work and ambient sounds, the EP is a gentle blend of vibrant tunes, with "Beacon Hill" featuring a soulful acapella-esque outro (available on the album version).
Check out Ramly’s SoundCloud for more tracks and eventually the EP. You can also check out one of Ramly’s live performances during the first edition of Beirut Open Stage a few months back.
If you like what you hear, and if you’re in or around Boston, MA, keep an eye on this fella. He’s basing himself there as of early July, so watch out for any upcoming gigs! (His Facebook page, in case you wanna stay tuned!)
