Why do we like this?
If you've been paying attention to popular music, this scenario may be familiar: Artist makes some noise, shows promise. Artist releases project. Artist is around for a bit and then slowly stops coming up in conversation. Artist tries a return project, it feels painfully forced. Artist is out.
Though maybe the first one or two parts of the previous description may fit, I never thought Rah Digga was a flash-in-the-pan artist. As I watched her explain her crazy Dirty Harriet cover on TRL more than a decade ago, I never expected Rah to be an MTV darling, but it was clear her skillset was titanic and her charisma was obvious. She stepped away from the industry aspect of music for some time but is making a very natural, and awaited, return.
After linking up with Quelle for the "Janis Joplin" single last year, Rah Digga is prepping her Hood House EP. The first taste is "I Heard You Say," where she re-appropriates Dennis Ferrer's "Hey Hey." Digga's version turns the dance floor-ready beat into a stage. With the earned confidence of a veteran and the ferocity of a natural-born spitter, Rah gives some bar time to her story, her break from the game and her impending return.
If you're missing that raw, missing powerful women behind the mic or missing hip-house (there must be someone...) keep an eye on the First Lady of New Jersey.
