The supergroup Prophets Of Rage are an amalgamation of artists from three of the world's most recognized acts who've come together as a response to the political turmoil that's engulfed America.
Comprising Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, Public Enemy's Chuck D and DJ Lord, and Cypress Hill's B-Real, the group have been touring the States playing sold out venues in hopes of spurring people to make the right choice when election time comes around.
Today the band have announced they'll be releasing an EP together, with "Prophets Of Rage" the first taste of what we can expect to hear. The track itself isn't exactly new, instead being a reimagining of the Public Enemy track of the same name that includes an original verse from B-Real.
As you can imagine from those involved, "Prophets Of Rage" sounds like a Rage song, which isn't a bad thing. The tune bristles with the energy of Rage's heavy rock instrumentation while featuring the political and socially charged poetry of Chuck D and B-Real.
Personally, Prophets Of Rage is all about the nostalgia factor for me. While it's great these guys still have a ferocious passion for what they believe in, as a music fan, it's the chance to hear three of my favourite 90s acts jamming together. Whether the novelty will wear off is another thing, but for now, Prophets Of Rage are keeping me interested not only in their music, but what's going on in America's political landscape. I only hope the same thing goes for American fans.
