Over the past six months I've been regularly posting tracks from local Adelaide producer Problems in the lead up to the release of his debut EP, which has finally dropped today.
The brainchild of producer Justin Walkden and vocalist Shane Lock, For The Ages is a super collection of tracks channeling ambient electronica, laid-back instrumentation and melodic R&B influences.
If like me, you were disappointed by Aussie downtempo electronic poster-boy Chet Faker's "Built On Glass," then For The Ages will turn that frown upside down.
From the warm electronica and hushed vocals of opener "Bruised," through to the inspiring climax of "For The Ages," Problems has created something that sounds familiar, but is entirely fresh.
Elsewhere, "Capture Me" has a murky synth presence and worldly feel, while "Self Reward" creeps into How To Dress Well territory, with Lock's distinct vocals the highlight.
Described by Problems "an emotive experience through past lives, present relationships and future experiences," For The Ages is a stunning first release that will leave you craving more.
