Why do we like this?
Although a native, I don't post about many Australian bands on Indie Shuffle. It's not that I don't like Aussie music (Cold Chisel, anyone?), it's just fellow country men and all round nice guys Hugh and Justin have it pretty much covered. But every so often, something slips through the cracks, and Adelaide artist Problems is one of those cases.
Taking influence from downbeat pioneer Bonobo, "Bruised" is Problem's second release, continuing the bedroom producer's love with ambient electronica. Describing the track as "heartfelt pinning and the discovery of selfishness and loss," "Bruised" is a grower, with warm synths complementing a slinking guitar line and upbeat percussion. Add the brooding vocals of Shane Lock, whose low hushed tones transform into a sprawling falsetto midway through, and you have yourself an engaging dose of hypnotic mood music. Top stuff.
