Primal Scream are perhaps best known for their seminal dance and alternative psychedelic album Screamadelica. After being met with such raging success the band were quickly under pressure to produce another album. Initially they decided to go to Memphis and record but after finally finishing the album their label Creation decided that it should be re-recorded and produced to try and make an album the dance and psychedelic fans were expecting.
Now for the first time the original recordings of "Give Out But Don't Give Up" have been released. The track "Big Jet Plane" is full of soulful guitar licks and dreamy melodies. The added backing vocals add more depth and gravity to the chorus which allows the saxophone solo to continue the momentum of the track. Eventually, you will be singing the chorus without realizing, as the song slowly pours its wholesome chords and melodies into your head.
The rest of the album follows suit, with the infamous track "Rocks" given a fatter and more rounded blues edge, and "Jail Bird" given a whole new dimension with added horns. This, in my opinion, is Primal Scream at their best, and back to their roots.
