The playful piano opening definitely tipped me off that was is going to be a light-hearted, folksy frolic of a track. Pree's "Lemon Tree," a single off their upcoming album
Folly, channels everything I love about indie folk rock: it's charming, bizarre, catchy, childish, and thoughtful all at once.
Hailing from our nation's capitol, Pree is an awesome foursome led by the talented May Tabol. The vocals have a slight, tremulous warble that gives "Lemon Tree" a heartwarming eccentricity.
I'm not surprised that the
Washington Post called the album "a cross between Joanna Newsom and Modest Mouse - full of that warm, intimate twang perfect for this time of year." It's no doubt that
Folly, due out October 18, is the perfect backdrop for the changing of leaves, a slight drop of temperature, and steaming mug of hot chocolate.
