Why do we like this?
Indie folk is gaining momentum in Beirut, and artists like OAK and Postcards have been busy working on original material, including new releases that have been a joy to my ears.
Postcards recently dropped their debut single, with an EP due out later this summer. The first time I heard "Oh The Places We Will Go" was during the band's live performance at Beirut Open Stage's Poolside Edition two weeks ago, and boy were they fun to watch!
The song is a soothing folk ballad, something reminiscent of good times that will certainly alter any listener's mood to suit the calm flow it dictates. I think lead singer Julia Sabra has a wonderful tone that carries the identity behind their sound; she's got a certain warmth in her voice that really makes her vocals stand out. If you're into her voice, I'm certain you'll also enjoy the subtle presence of the ukulele (which Julia also plays) and the well-constructed drum patterns, both of which add interesting layers to the folk elements on the track.
Their EP should come out sometime soon, and I'll be bringing you new songs as they're released. I'm very much looking forward to seeing Postcards grow as a band, and I'm curious about the direction they'll be taking. Whichever way they do go, I think they've got all the elements to make it sound interesting!
