Why do we like this?
Don't let the first few seconds fool you into thinking this track belongs in Sunday Night Chill; the colors run deeper, signaled by a percussion drop making way for a sunnier version of dubstep and pockets of chillwave.
As a subjective preference, I could do without the introductory vocals, only because the music produces a richer story than the one the lyrics are telling. I'm suddenly brought back to reality, whereas I was previously entranced by the texture alone. Later on though, as the synth beautifully echoes in rhythm with the percussion, the vocals haunt again, and all elements fall into their emotional place.
This remix of "On Fire" is Portrait's own. The original comes from the San Francisco native's debut album, Symphony of Errors, which, according to Portrait's Facebook page, displays the spectrum "of our endless, and often solitary, search for truth in life, love, and relationship."
