What do Hawaiian shirts and jalapeño poppers have in common? Well, they both happen to be party favorites. Simply throw some live music into the mix and you've got in instant party. That's exactly what the Albuquerque three piece Pool Party are trying to accomplish with their take on the classic surf-rock genre.
The bands track "Jalapeno Poppin'" is an homage to the instrumental surf-rock of the 50s and 60s as bands like the Surfaris, Dick Dale, and the Ventures with loads of reverb washing over elongated guitar riffs. Pool Party manages to throw in a few other influences with a definite punk attitude carried throughout the track care of the frantic bass lines and drum lines making the song sound like it may or may not speed right off an impending cliff.
This is definitely surf-rock with an edge, but I guess even guys eating jalapeño poppers in Hawaiian shirts can feel a bit gnarly every once in a while.
Pool Party's album Slave To The Waves will be released on June 21st, just in time for the official start of summer. Until then, make your way over to their YouTube channel for their plethora of music videos.
