Why do we like this?
First, math rockers 65daysofstatic did a song featuring Robert Smith of The Cure. Now, band member Paul Wolinski has created a solo album under the name Polinski (a clever combination of his two names if you didn't see that), and I gotta say... I'm thoroughly surprised. So, what's this new electronic/experimental debut about?
Apparently Paul has had Labyrinths in the works for a while now, putting the tracks together while on or between tours of 65dos. It's now finally done, having been mastered by Paul Gold, the guy "who made We Were Exploding Anyway sound like sunsets," and drawn up by artist Caspar Newbolt. Let me tell you, it all looks and sounds lovely. According to Paul himself, the art and music have ended up influencing each other a lot so if you're looking to get a glimpse into what the album may sound like, just take a peak at the front cover. I'll admit, it's fucking exciting.
I can't wait to see where Paul is taking Labyrinths and am looking forward to hearing it when it drops here in London on October 31 (for all you in the States, it'll be November 7) on Monotreme Records. For now, check out his SoundCloud or watch the animated video accompaniment to the album's teaser. Don't forget to give Polinski's Tumblr a gloss too since you can find cool remixes and be able to stay up-to-date on his tour schedule.
