I hadn't heard of Poliça until I opened up a recent press release, featuring this gem of a track. Many of you might not have heard Poliça either, unless you obsessively follow GAYNGS, Bon Iver, or were at a show where they opened for Foster the People.
Toeing the line of R&B and experimental electronic music, Poliça's "Lay Your Cards Out" is as dreamy as electronic music can get, with synthetic textures and lovely vocals from Channy Leaneagh. Leaneagh is accompanied by Ryan Olson, who worked with her on GAYNGS (hear the electronic/R&B influences?), and on "Lay Your Cards Out," Bon Iver's Mike Noyce lends a helping hand.
"I wrote this song when I was lost in a long list of troubles and thought I was done for," Leaneagh recently told
Spinner. "It's about releasing yourself from a wayward path, pulling your mind back into your body and telling the people around you to show themselves plainly without any masks so you can make sure they are safe and trustworthy companions."
"Lay Your Cards Out" is the first single from
Give You the Ghost, which drops February 14, 2012.
