I first heard Peter Fenn, the vocal half of Polaroid, as a solo act at one of San Francisco's best open mics hosted at a truly special place called "The Center." This place, which was in the basement of a co-op living space in the Lower Haight, hosted unbelievably talented musicians, such as the young Fenn, to play in an environment where everyone sat on the floor giving devout attention, not uttering a single peep during each song.
Every time Fenn reached the stage, with a only mic and a Taylor, upbeat originals about love lost and love found permeated the room. Vivid songs were host to beautiful guitar melodies and a voice that captivated guests the way only a powerful presentation could.
Eventually Fenn met Parker Livingston, another SF-based musician, albeit on the production side. They began to work together to create a series of bedroom recordings while living in the City by the Bay, however, "Gospel" is a serious track deserving serious attention.
Now Fenn lives in LA having left everything behind to pursue a career creating music. Livingston is still in SF. The two send riffs and vocal hooks back and forth through a cloud-based file hosting service (sounds very SF, huh?) to create tracks such as this.
Enjoy this new lo-fi release from Polaroid featuring a wide vocal range and bar sample from Fenn while Livingston brings a simple, yet extremely catchy beat that lets Fenn's voice shine. This is the beginning of what many of the SF faithful hope to be an illustrious career for both Fenn and Livingston. Keep an eye on them, a lot of new music is in the pipeline.
