On tonight's edition of Sunday Night Chill, I tried to piece together some recent (and not so recent) examples of seemingly straightforward indie rock bands that like to stretch things out on occasion and provide us with some grand compositions. These songs were meant to be enjoyed with headphones on in a dream-like state.
There's a certain element of magic to each of these tunes I selected. Bands like The Smith Westerns, Wild Nothing, and Gap Dream aren't known for any sort of grandiose arrangements like Brian Eno and his Music for Airports album. But these bands still have their moments, where everything that is typically done on a rock album seems to fall by the wayside and they simply blow you away with a beautiful piece of music.
To end the set, I included a classic Brain Eno track that seems to fit this description, as well as a brand new track from the always hypnotic Monster Rally to make you forget about the upcoming week and just be in the moment.
