Twelve hours ago, I was in the middle of a polar vortex trying to remember why New York City is the greatest city in the world. I'm now in cut-off shorts, beer in hand, a short ride from some of the best waves in the world. Gloating aside, I still sympathize with everyone in need of a Sunday Night Chill. The dance-heavy tracks I chose for this week feature a mellowed out vibe you can still tap your feet to -- and hopefully you'll do just that as your unwinding, unbundling, or under the covers.
We start off with an ambient snippet of "On Board" by
Graze -- the side project of
New Kanada's figurehead Adam Marshall. Manchester's
Pulp Disco & The Outcasts veer off to the darker side with "Descension," a perfect candidate for a Gaspar Noe soundtrack, replete with haunting lyrics discussing psychoanalysis and extraterrestrial transportation.
We also show a lot of love for NY-based deep house label
Scissor and Thread. The label gets some proper representation by Canadian DJ/producer duo
Bob Moses, with "Too Close for Comfort" off their recent
Far From The Tree EP and label boss Francis Harris with a preview of "RadioFreeze" from his upcoming grief-laden
Minutes of Sleep EP.
This week's Sunday Night Chill is rounded out by an amazing Lake People remix of
Yoko Duo's "Blowfish" and the synth-infused "Nite Tech" by Baltimore's own
BRAIDER.
