NBC's Parenthood continued to garner success both critically and in popularity with its second season. Stepping up the drama with a few key characters making life altering decisions, the show reminds us that primetime TV doesn't have to take place in a hospital or a crime lab.
Not only did Parenthood Season 2 bring us some quality television, but its use of music got even better. While still containing a lot of the folk/acoustic sound that became the show's standby in Season 1 (including the likes of James Vincent McMorrow and S. Carey), the producers stretched the show's musical boundary in the second season and included some underground hip hop in the form of a remix of Das Racist's "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell" and a track off Kid Cudi's first album Man On The Moon: The End of the Day.
Indie rockers Menomena and Yeasayer also showed up alongside Britain's electro pop darlings The xx, rounding out one of the best collections of music on a current show.
Thank you producers of Parenthood for proving that quality TV and great music can and should co-exist, no matter how big the network!
