It's not to often that a band asks a movie director to work with them and a film is completed six months later.  Then again, Explosions In The Sky and David Gordon Green are anything but typical. Fresh off a string of stoner flickso like Pineapple Express and Your Highness, Green has managed to find a middle ground between these commercially successfully comedies and his early independent work with his newest film Prince Avalanche. Starring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch, Prince Avalanche tells the story of Alvin and Lance, and their summer spent painting highway lines in wake of a wildfire. Alvin and Lance find themselves becoming friends in the middle of nowhere Texas despite their very different personalities -- one misses the fast life and the other relishes the opportunity of their surroundings -- and they come to terms by annoying the hell out of one another and realizing that each have something to offer the other. What really stands out about this film is the connection between the music and the landscape, as the post-rock heroes Explosions In The Sky have become synonymous with their home state of Texas.  Working with Green's composing partner-in-crime  David Wingo, the collaboration has yielded something in between soaring post-rock and film score.  There has always been something cinematic about the music of Explosions In The Sky, and their music continues to serve as the perfect backdrop for meandering Texas highways as it's combined with some new elements care of Wingo. This is definitely a reason to go check out Prince Avalanche
