So, New York. Summer finally decided to arrive and already it's time for Governors Ball!
It's pretty much this weekend or never if you're looking for a big music festival you can get to on the subway. Big time music festival fans in New York City don't have a ton of options for local festivals this summer. The similar-but-later-in-the-summer festival, Panorama, won't be running in 2019.
I've spoken to others about the Gov Ball lineup this year, and I keep hearing people say it's not as inspiring as previous years. That's taking a narrow view, in my opinion. When you dive deeper into the lineup, you'll see there's a host of high quality of the smaller acts on offer as well.
Part of the fun of going to a music festival is to be blown away by a new act you've never seen or heard of before. Festivals are all about discovery. Find a gem of an act and you'll be a fan for life.
The other thing I like to do before going to a music festival is to look for stretches in the line up with back-to-back solid acts.
The pick of the days for me is Sunday, with Bob Moses, Louis the Child, Kaytranada and Sza all back-to-back. Florence headlining on Saturday is always a treat—she seems to love coming to New York and is her usual energetic, larger than life, self. I'm also personally hanging to see what Daft Punk proteges Parcels can do live.
What are you most excited for?
Governors Ball Music Festival starts this Friday, May 31 and goes through to Sunday 2 June 2019. It's on Randall's Island in New York City. Some GA tickets are still available from the website here.
