Covers come in all shapes and sizes (including Spongebob Squarepants bed covers). In the music world the most frequent are, of course, acoustic performances -- and those also happen to be those with the lowest recording quality (ie, they suck).
So, it's nice when a band actually sits down and goes through the motions of properly recording and producing their own rendition of someone else's work.
