What a change 12 months makes in the Australian music industry. This time last year (check out my 2012 "best of" list
here) I was raving about our abundance of indie pop talent and our emerging electronic scene. But my 2013 list celebrates the real coming-of-age of the electronic music community here. Spurred on by the success of acts like Chet Faker and Flume (whose
Lockjaw EP had a couple of tracks on my shortlist!), producers of incredible talent have been making their mark all over the country.
Of course, there's still room for some of the best in rock, pop and psychedelic genres, with some amazing bands making a name for themselves and others making triumphant returns to the spotlight. This list is in no particular order (I've programmed it hoping it will flow), and it is just an opinion of one person -- I encourage you to post your top tens below.
Honorable mentions go to
Vancouver Sleep Clinic,
Kins,
Cull,
Snakadaktal,
Willow Beats,

Vertigo."
