In a genre that often feels overpopulated and underserved, PigPen Theatre. Co's "Weathervane" points in a distinct direction. As their name describes, they're more than just a band -- they're a collective that began making music, film, and theatre at Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in 2007. They're now returning with their sophomore effort.
At just over five minutes long, the time changes make "Weathervane" feel like a few short folk songs sewn together. Opening with gentle guitar finger-picking, the song steadily builds to a sailing sonic surge that proclaims, "How I made those days" before settling back for a final triumphant build.
The band's About Us page introduces the players: Dan, Ryan, Ben, Curtis, Alex, Matt, and Arya, explaining (among other future game show answers) how the imaginative band got their name.
