Hailing from Toronto, Pick A Piper was formed by Caribou drummer Brad Weber, along with Angus Fraser, Dan Roberts and various guest vocalists such as John Schmersal and Ryan McPhun. The group has successfully put out two EPs to date, and is releasing their forthcoming debut LP on April 2, 2013 on Mint.
This collaborative project "combines dance-music structures, poly-rhythmic percussion, atmospheric sound design, loopy melodies and a focus on electronics and production technique to create a sound poised between the organic and the synthetic," according to
Fractured Air. "Lucid in Fjords" reminds us a bit of the quality of Radiohead's vocal integration, as well as M83's 80s-infused approach to synthetic music.
This sound features heavy percussion with creeping and echoed lyrics that can cause your eyelids to feel pleasantly heavy in response. "Lucid in Fjords" explores a world where electronica rules, and abides by its every rule.
