Why do we like this?
According to Skrillex, "Phonat is EASILY the most underrated producer out there now. Fuck, he's amazing. I do not know why he isn't the biggest thing out there."
Originally from rural Tuscany, Italy, Phonat moved to London to pursue his dreams loaded with only a five year-old laptop and a Fender Strat guitar. He was quickly discovered by MofoHifi Records and began recording his debut album, Phonat, which became critically acclaimed amongst electronic producers.
Phonat is one of those artists whose genre is difficult to pinpoint. In fact, I think he doesn't want to be subjected to a certain type of genre, which is why his style and influences encompass a wide spectrum of musical ideology; French house, D&B, nu disco, mash-up, metal, trip hop, downtempo, funk, glitch, electro and rock all play an integral part in Phonat's production.
"All This Time" is a glitchy, downtempo track with distorted vocals and various keys to make for a unique listen. It may not come off as the most user-friendly of songs, but give Phonat some credit for his originality and his audacity to break some rules.
This track comes from his newest album, Identity Theft, which was released June 4, 2013 on Skrillex's OWSLA label. For more on Phonat, check out his personal website here.
