Why do we like this?
Since R. Kelly shared the stage with Phoenix's headlining spot at Coachella back in May, performing a live mashup of "Ignition" with the Parisian trendsetters "1901", the summer festival circuit has been ruled by the two unlikely heroes. From R. Kelly's triumphant stops at Bonnaroo and Pitchfork to Phoenix's stunning sets at Lollapalooza and last weekend's Outside Lands, we've been hoping to see their cross paths again.
Now we have an official collaboration between the two. R. Kelly continues Phoenix's remix series with a take on "Trying To Be Cool" from last February's Bankrupt!. While the remix remains fairly straightforward, R. Kelly takes over on the chorus, dropping a verse and peppering in a few choice backing bits.
It's tough to argue with a fresh version of a track that's been one of our most played of the year. Enjoy!
