Why do we like this?
We haven't shared any new renditions of Phoenix songs for a little while now, and that's probably because their Grammy-winning album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix was released almost two years ago (wow!). But this Edwin Van Cleef cover certainly merits the attention of our ears.
The reason why is obvious: 90% of the draw comes in the form of female vocalist Jane Hanley, who fronts the band Kids at Midnight. There's a definite sultry edge to her voice, which transforms the once up-beat Phoenix intro track into a sexy musical landscape (all due credit, of course, to Edwin's space-disco rework of the instrumentals). The result is something that's almost worthy of the genre categorization "dreamwave."
