Why do we like this?
You know what's freaky about this cover? No, it's not that it's amazingly good. It's that Birdy is only fifteen years of age. Yeah, try to wrap your head around that.
As you might recall, "1901" in its original form was an upbeat, dancey track that entered as the second song of 2009's Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. That's part of what makes this cover so striking -- the slowed down pace. With it, Birdy adds an emotional twinge that can only be interpreted as well-beyond her years. Again, did I mention that she's only fifteen? Ridiculous!
Her self-titled album Birdy was just released and is already sitting high in the charts. It features remixes of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love," The Postal Service and The xx, among a number of other indie names.
