If you’re a fan of Indie Shuffle and great music in general, you probably can recall the first moment you heard our millennial anthem hits like TNAF’s “Young Blood” and Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks.” These delicious songs were too blissful not to love and overplay every hot, breathless day.
The sweet relief of summer is almost here, and I am pretty confident I’ve stumbled upon 2015’s most memorable song.
Phases is a “smart pop” band hailing from Los Angeles. Musically laced friends Z Berg, Alex Greenwald, Jason Boesel (who you may know from Rilo Kiley, Bright Eyes, and Jenny Lewis), and Michael Runion have been experimenting with sounds and band names since 2009. My bet is though this sound and this name will be the one that sticks.
“I’m In Love With My Life” is a sugary, delightful earworm that invites your feet to slip from side to side. It will be the theme song for all your favorite activities: shopping for that perfect crop top, building your buzz on Friday afternoon, reapplying coconut-scented sunscreen next to a beautiful body of water, driving out West in a cramped car filled with your favorite people on this earth.
Phases' newness rivals still-wet kittens and just-squeezed orange juice. It is exciting to hear a noise and know 30 seconds in that radio stations everywhere are going to run wild with it. Wild!
Remember where you are right now. Remember where you heard it first.
