Why do we like this?
We recently covered the up-and-coming "jackin' house" scene with this piece on Hannah Wants and Chris Lorenzo's "Girls." The Guardian has now joined us in saluting the scene, especially its willigness to engage with out-of-the-ordinary ideas.
No track shows that better than Pete Graham and Chris Lorenzo's "Man Cub." Sampling Louis Prima's Jungle Book-featured "King of the Swingers," "Man Cub" has a typical deep n' dirty bassline, with swinging sounds you wouldn't usually expect to hear on a dancefloor.
It's that ability to do the unexpected that makes the jackin' house genre so special. Whether or not you like the sounds at its core, this is an inescapably a fun track that will make you want to dance - and at the end of the day, that's what dance music is supposed to do. Hats off to them!
