“Run Me Through (King Princess Remix)” is a track from Perfume Genius’ new record Reshaped, a clever naming for a collection of remixes from the highly acclaimed 2017 album No Shape.
This particular remix is thoughtful and doesn’t impose any “four to the floor” beats on the understated percussion and general slow-burning atmosphere of the original track.
Mike Hadreas’ vocals are still at the forefront, allowing fans of the original to easily adapt to this new sound. The Wurlitzer piano is more subdued here, with King Princess instead washing a choral imitation of the original riff and new digital flourishes over the mix. The imagery of a strange trip lost in the Amazon that painted the original track is still present in all of its swampy glory.
No Shape features Hadreas collaborating with some exciting artists and promises to be “adventurous takes on the album’s vivid sonic world.” It is currently out on Matador.
