Off his new Beck & Call EP, Londoner Paul Cook explores the dichotomy between lyrics and tone in the single "Talk Dirty." It's wistful, fond, tender: like an indie pop lullaby. Not what you'd expect from the title - unless you are familiar with Cook's previous work.
The hopeless and witty romantic, as a singer-songwriter Cook takes overused ideas and reinvents them with a fresh, new take. Sometimes he looks for "someone to talk to late at night" ("A Real Thunderbolt") or laments that he's "not even on your radar" ("Radar"). But this time around Cook is happy "to fall in love with no one, just talk dirty."
