A common reaction from Patrick Wolf fans upon hearing "The City" is "woah, he's happy!" While that provides a good indication that his music was on the other end of the spectrum before, it also demonstrates that he did exactly what he wanted to with this song.
Inspired by the negative vibes surrounding him in the UK, Patrick wanted to use "The City" to convey a positive message. A piano, saxophone and a clapping beat provided excellent weapons, and so he forged on. Perhaps, however, there was another route, another sound -- from a positive music era -- that could be called up in the quest to inspire happy thoughts. You guessed it: the sound of the 80s!
Richard X's remix accomplishes just that by bringing a compelling synthpop flare to "The City," complimenting the versatility of the original song. The single will be released March 14th, but the remix is available for download by following our link to Soundcloud. Patrick's next album is due for release in May 2011, and will be pre-empted by a tour through the UK.
