The quiet town of Matlock in rural Derbyshire isn't the first place you'd think to find one of the hottest nu-disco outfits around right now. Yet the trio of Rory Lovatt, Sam Wilmot and Beth Garret that make up Patawawa have been busy tinkering and fine-tuning their funk filled sound for the past few years. On their latest number, "That Guy", they get their influences right from the start, with an irresistible Chic-esque bass-line leading us in.
Along with co-producer Karma Kid, these guys really know their way round a studio, with all manner of bells and whistles (literally and figuratively) making this number go off with a bang. Their tongue in cheek delivery and knack for a killer melody ensures this one gets stuck right in your head from the very first listen.
"That Guy" follows on from their second EP, London, Paris, New York, Matlock, released back in May, and there's the promise of a run of UK and European dates before 2019 is through. With so much doom and gloom around at the moment, Patawawa are a blast of pure upbeat positivity that will guarantee to brighten your mood.
