Why do we like this?
Something about the title of "Beautiful Girl" feels very in line with Party Supplies' own moniker. The Brooklyn duo's name conjures up the fantasy of debauchery run rampant. But you need a little spirit to imbue streamers and solos with life, and it's that quest -- that balance of cheap thrills and something more -- that motivates this song.

"Beautiful Girl" wreaks of longing: to escape, for love, for more (whatever that means), but it all takes place within the confines of a social scene that feels very real, and, of course, appears glamorous.  It's inspiring and desolate, and maybe a little too reflective of our obsessions with people and things.

In the end, "Beautiful Girl" succeeds by performing its own anxiety. It forces you dance, even if -- especially if -- it hurts.

Party Supplies' debut Tough Love is out August 27.
