Birthed from the remnants of much-loved Sydney rock heroes
Red Riders, remaining members Al Griggs and Tom Wallace have formed a new project, Palms. Rather than continuing down the Red Riders path, the decided to retire the band altogether and start from scratch. Their track " The Summer Is Done With Us" sets the scene for their new style, vintage rock with a touch of punk.
While their new music has elements of Red Riders - especially Griggs' trademark wailing vocals - you can tell that Palms' new product will be of the more upbeat variety. Hurried, thrashy and gritty, "The Summer Is Done With Us" is the perfect combination of surf-pop and indie rock. Palms aren't doing anything groundbreaking, but that's part of the charm. They're just enjoying making music, and this is obvious when you listen.
With a few demos floating around, and rumors of a new album, those missing Red Riders needn't worry too much.
