Why do we like this?
Palms had a lot to live up to in my eyes. The Sydney band is the new(ish) project of ex-Red Riders members Tom and Al, and given the love I had for their old group, my expectations were high from the get-go. I shouldn't have worried though, as Palms have more than lived up to my lofty standards.
With less of the heartrending themes Red Riders often focused on, Palms still have the same loveable honesty in their music. Their self-described "scrappy rock music" is all recorded at a friend's place, with just a couple more tracks to complete before their debut album is complete. Single "Love" is probably my favorite release from them thus far. Whatever scuzzy means, it's that "“ think plenty of wailing vocals, shredding guitar and gritty recording.
Palms will be closing the INDIE SHUFFLE PRESENTS showcase in Sydney this Saturday (RSVP here). Scuzzy.
