Monochrom is a short and solemn experimental synth-pop EP from Prague artists Dominik Gajarsky and Roman Stetina, running under the name of PALERMO. It's sharp and gut-wrenching, a bit like Former Ghosts when they first came out; I wasn't surprised to see a Freddy Ruppert cover included. Most of the tunes are pretty eerie, with bleak lyrics sung like whispers in the dark for slow dances in the shadows.
PALERMO will release their debut LP, called
Still Life, under the US label Crazy Iris Records in May. Until then, you can listen by downloading this EP on
Bandcamp and follow their release on
Facebook. I highly recommend checking out the "Book of Ethics"
music video -- an excellent hand-held one-shot that perfectly sums up how PALERMO balances calm and soothing with perturbed and storming.
