Palehound's single "If You Met Her" is a great new lo-fi track with meditative drums and relaxed guitar and bass. The song starts with a simple guitar intro and expands into a comfortable, melancholy melody as harmonized vocals, bass, and drums effortlessly blend together.
Paying closer attention to the lyrics, the track becomes more solemn. In an interview with Stereogum in May, lead singer Ellen Kempner explained how the track was about a friend who passed away. Kempner state the song is "about being young and getting older and knowing that your friend didn’t have the opportunity to do that". Both the lyrics and repetitive nature of the instrumentals beautifully capture the feelings of reflection on the loss of a friend.
Following up their album Dry Food released in 2015, “If You Met Her” will be on Palehound’s upcoming album, A Place I’ll Always Go, that will be released on June 16. The album can be pre-ordered on the band's website here.
