Pacific Heights is the solo project of Wellington-based songwriter and producer Devin Abrams. A former founding member of New Zealand's Shapeshifter, he has just released the lead single from his upcoming album The Stillness.
Citing influences such as James Blake, Radiohead, and drum and bass music, Abrams creates a beautifully ambient, pulsating soundscape with "Airborne," perfectly complemented by the pure, soaring vocals of Deanne Krieg.
My brain can't quite compartmentalize the glorious milieu of sounds I am experiencing, but I do know that this is some really great music, and I can't wait to the the rest of the release.
Largely revolving around themes of purgatory, the song is first chapter in a multi-part visual story that represents The Stillness, with the accompanying video reinforcing these themes with a haunting visual tale of lost love and memories.
