Why do we like this?
Melbourne folk musician Owls of the Swamp (Pete Uhlenbruch) first caught my attention (and yours I hope!) a few months back with his haunting single "The Hypnotist." As a seasoned touring performer who's spent a lot of time in Europe, he's become known around the world for his distinctive style and songwriting.
Rather than go into hibernation as many artists do while recording (he's currently recording his third album in Iceland), he'll be releasing a number of B-sides during the year, and "Happiness is a Sad Song" is the first. It's a quick and simple song, but that doesn't lessen the beauty Uhlenbruch creates with his characteristically finger-picked guitar/banjo, and most of all, his honest, heartfelt vocals.
Check in at the Owls of the Swamp SoundCloud to keep up to date with all his releases before his album drops in early 2014.
