"Holy Holy" is the latest single from Melbourne's Owen Rabbit, and it's really struck a chord with me. The track was written and recorded at Owen's home studio, and showcases both his production talents and his gorgeous voice.
The verses feel so intimate and raw, especially when you get to the raspier moments. The vocals give off a sense of emotional submission, leaving a feeling of desperation, bordering on despair -- particularly when you listen to the lyrics. Contrasting these moments with synth peaks and drops throughout has altogether created something really quite powerful.
Owen has said that he wrote the track "about my mental state and abusing my health as a means of self medication... Art and creation from pain has been a cathartic sort of therapy, and has given me acceptance."
"Holy Holy" is currently available as a free download. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for an accompanying video clip.
