Why do we like this?
You may not know the name Otis Brown III yet, but if you're a modern jazz head, chances are you've heard his drumming. A session drummer for the likes of Esperanza Spalding and others, Brown has been keeping the legacy of jazz drumming alive.
His own debut album, The Thought Of You, comes courtesy of a partnership between Okayplayer's Revive jazz sister site and the heralded Blue Note records. The first part of the title track features fellow New School alumni and modern jazz enthusiast Bilal, but that is just the hook. What reels the listener into the track is the dastardly display of chemistry between Brown's drum kit and the horn.
Open your mind to the pinnacle of American music.
