Oscar's debut album Cut and Paste is one of those records I've spent so much time listening to since it came out that I've become almost possessively attached to its hooky charm.
I've been through distinct phases with it, from "Whoa, this is catchy," to hours of aggressive bedroom mirror karaoke using a baseball bat as a guitar, to actually trying to learn the songs on real guitar to play along and impress my eye-rolling friends. What I've noticed throughout is that both the swooning make-believe crowds I've electrified and everyone I've spun it for can agree that they dig the feel-good energy of its ten songs.
A personal favorite is "Breaking My Phone," which Oscar has now spruced up with pink-laden pop badass GIRLI, his friend and scheduled partner in crime on his upcoming UK and Europe fall tour, (come to the U.S. after please?). Her verse adds a colorful buoyancy that'll make you sing the words "rigor mortis" with spiteful enthusiasm, (nobody likes being left out to dry over text), and isn't that a victory on its own?
