California-based trap producer Ookay (pronounced "okay") follows his last official single, "Only One (Ft. A-Trak)," with "Thief"— another amazing song complete with the skittering hi-hats and heavy 808 drums the genre is known for.
The song features R&B style verses set to a backdrop of pitch-shifted, staccato vocals that caused me to experience a feeling of simultaneous peace and momentum. The subtle, swelling energy is aided by the addition of rapid kick drums and hi-hats that eventually evolves into the jazzy saxophone and bass-heavy drop that took me by surprise when I first heard it.
The melody is super repetitive, which is what makes it addictive in all the right ways. I can definitely say that I will be humming this tune for the next few days.
