As a general rule, Aussie hip-hop usually makes me clench my teeth, and while its developed into a hugely popular genre over the past decade, I'm not alone. Recently, though, I've been seeing a bit of a change, and have actually been enjoying some of the music that's been coming out. This track from super group One Dayis a great example.
"Love Me Less" is the first single from a dream-team made up of members from Australian hip-hop groups Horrorshow, Spit Syndicate, Jackie Onassis, and MC Joyride. Smooth, catchy beats are supplemented by fun, well-pronounced vocals in a clear, but non-offensive Australian accent. Despite my pre-existing condition to hate on Australian-made hip-hop, this track is a winner.
I really hope this is an indication of things to come from Australia's budding hip-hop community. One Day's debut album Manlineis due out on August 1 via One Day Entertainment.
