Why do we like this?
One of the best things about being a music enthusiast is watching a band you've followed for years start to get the recognition they deserve. For me, a band which perfectly fits the bill is Sydney's Olympic Ayres, whose bandwagon I jumped on a couple of years back.
Releasing their third EP (aptly named Episode III) mid-way through last year, the guys were thrilled when lead-single "Magic" was added to the FIFA 2014 Soundtrack. They then finished out 2013 by being handpicked to perform at a number of high profile festivals, completing a breakout year for the creative duo of Kamaliza Salamba and Nathan Mifsud (who also increased their live band to five members).
Rather than resting on their laurels, they've begun working on their fourth EP Leisureplex, with the record's first single "Take Flight" premiering on Indie Shuffle today. A typically upbeat affair from Olympic Ayres, we're once again treated to the throbbing bass-line and flourishes of percussion that have become their signature. They have always had a great ability to bridge the gap between numerous genres, and nothing's changed here as they blend indie-pop, electro, dance and disco together to create this catchy single.
Onward and upward for Olympic Ayres, with plenty more to follow in the coming months. Make sure to check out their previous releases too on their Soundcloud to find out what I've been raving about for years.
