Okey Dokey is a duo consisting of Aaron Martin and Johny Fisher from Nashville. When thinking of Nashville, modern-psychedelic indie is not the first genre that comes to mind in a city so popularly known for country influence.
The first Okey Dokey track I heard was "Wavy Gravy," their debut track released in 2016, and since then I have remained a fan. They manage to create a reformed version of traditional soul music with a synthesizer-influenced twist. Although their songs are simple both lyrically and melodically, there is a uniqueness in the composition that evokes emotion.
On top of this, Aaron Martin's voice reminds me a bit of Dan Auerbach's voice, of the Black Keys, which adds to the soulful aesthetic of Okey Dokey's discography.
Check out their six singles that have been released in 2019 (on top of their older releases), and throw them some love.
Cheers,
Stella xoxo
