Leading up to a debut EP, Oh Bummer! releases "Mirrors." Teaming up with seasoned producer The KickDrums (50 Cent, Kid Cudi, Freddie Gibbs), this single features horns by Kelly Pratt (David Byrne, Arcade Fire, Beirut.) Moreish string-work is the first drawcard, the horns are the second, and the third -- that delectable chorus.
Speaking to the track, Seattle-born, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Tanner Houghton describes "Mirrors" as "a reflection of myself, my tendencies to want to give up, and my survival instincts never letting me give up.” And reflects on his music as “songs for people who are trying their best made by someone who’s trying his best.”
Considering the track myself, I'm drawn to the idea of contradictions . Wanting or being two opposing things can definitely creates tension. When there's tension, it's hard to find contement. Life is tough enough without that which makes it worse such as contradictions, tension, and dissatisfaction; but at least we have melodic music like "Mirrors" that speaks to that, and not only lets us get lost in something beautiful, but also makes us feel less alone. I hope you enjoy the listen.
