Australian artist cln has remixed Odesza’s "Say My Name (ft. Zyra)" as part of the current Odesza remix contest. This remix manages to showcase something unique and new without straying too far from the original.
Following up his highly acclaimed debut EP Sideways, the young producer has already created an identifiable sound with his intoxicatingly smooth melodies and downtempo rhythms. While Odesza create full, sweeping musical atmospheres, the beauty in cln’s remix is more singular – it’s more stripped back, allowing you to find strength within each individual layer. The rhythm is solid and slightly delayed, and you can get into a pretty special groove, especially with the deep, rumbling bass that balances out the soundscape.
There's a stronger focus on synth-based sounds and tampered vocal loops in this track, giving off a more futuristic, spacey vibe. Zyra's original vocals haven't really changed, though, and I’m happy with that. Her heavenly sound still rings through, allowing her gorgeous lilt to remain a point of focus throughout the track.
